MVEC to hold fundraising dinner

Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) will host the biannual All-You-Can-Eat shrimp dinner on Friday Oct. 14, at their headquarters in Jordan. This fundraising event will help electrify Pignon, Haiti, a small town of about 30,000 people. The menu includes shrimp, salad, baked potatoes, garlic toast, cheesecake and beverages. Dinner is served from 5-7 p.m. Call 952-492-2313 to make reservations for tickets. Take-outs are also available.


Friends of Library to hold book sale

The New Prague Friends of the Library will hold its Fall Book Sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the New Prague Public Library. Children’s books, young adult, junior fiction, fiction, non-fiction, videos and much more will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to support children’s programs at the library.

Donations are greatly appreciated and may be dropped off at the library during regular library hours.


St. Wenceslaus CCW meet Oct. 17

October is new membership month for the St. Wenceslaus Council of Catholic Women’s group. People are invited to join them on Monday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m. in the church basement. Guest speaker will be Andy Pieper, New Prague High School alumnus and graduate of the University of St. Thomas who is currently attending St. Thomas Law School. He will be sharing his adventures of travels abroad and teaching English as a second language in Prague, Czech Republic.


CHORE Services at Philipp Square

CAP Agency presents CHORE Services at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Philipp Square Apartments, 116 First Ave. NW, New Prague.

CHORE provides help with indoor and outdoor maintenance chores to enable seniors to live independently in their own homes. Adults, ages 60 and older, who live in Scott County, who need this support are eligible for CHORE services.

MCCL speakers to visit New Prague

All those involved in the pro-life movement are invited to attend an evening of education and motivation at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the New Prague Public Library.

There will be two speakers from Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) at the meeting. Information: Dave Sticha (952-758-4255).


Post 45 to meet Oct. 18

Charles Borak Post 45, American Legion, New Prague, will hold a regular monthly meeting at the Park Ballroom clubroom on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m.

Dues for 2006 will be accepted at the meeting.

Lunch and refreshments will be served after the meeting.


American Legion Auxiliary to meet

The American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #45 of New Prague will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Park Ballroom starting at 8 p.m. The lunch committee for this October meeting is Dorothy Hamer, Angie Havlicek and Addie Hein.


Twin Lakes Sportsmen meet Oct. 18

The monthly meeting of the Wheatland Twin Lakes Sportsmen’s Club will be on Tuesday Oct.18, at 7 p.m. at the American Legion in Montgomery. Everyone is welcome.


Fibromyalgia Support Group to meet

The Fibromyalgia Support Group meets at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. The group is held in a confidential setting where individuals and families can talk freely about issues affecting their daily lives. The group's purpose is to provide positive common experiences for those afflicted with fibromyalgia and those who love them. Family members are welcome to attend.

Separated/Divorced Group meets

The Area Separated and Divorced Support Group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at St. Wenceslaus Church Hall, New Prague, from 7-8:30 p.m. This year the group is using the book: Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends.

The topic for October 18 is Loneliness: I've Never Felt So Alone. People can come and experience good support as they move through this time in their lives. People of all faiths are welcome. Information: Mary (952-873-6781).


VFW, Auxiliary to meet Oct. 20

Gopher Post 5145, New Prague Veterans of Foreign Wars, and its Auxiliary, will hold their regular monthly meetings on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 8 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms at the New Prague City Hall.

The 2006 membership drive is underway and yearly dues may be paid at the meeting.

Lunch and refreshments will follow the meeting.


Service set for Women’s Health Center

An ecumenical healing service will be held in the Women’s Health Center lounge at Queen of Peace Hospital on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 7-7:30 p.m.

This service will be filled with music, simple prayer and blessing aimed at addressing physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Bring a partner, friend or family member. Questions can be directed to hospital chaplain, Nicole Schmidt, at 952-758-8176.


Scott Co. Senior Expo is Oct. 21

Area senior citizens will be treated to one of the premier events of the year developed especially for them on Friday, Oct. 21, when they come together to Celebrate Long Term Living at the Scott County Senior Expo. The event will be held at the Shakopee High School, 200 East 10th Ave., from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. that day. There will be exhibits, entertainment, massages, speakers, information and a luncheon.

Registration forms for the Expo are located at businesses in Scott County communities. There is a cost of the event and registrations will be taken until the slots are full. Infant/Child CPR class set at hospital

Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague is offering Heartsaver CPR – Pediatric Module – Infant/Child CPR on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hospital Conference Center. This class is designed to teach infant and child CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to lay rescuers, particularly those who respond to emergencies in the workplace or home. Childcare providers and parents are welcome.

The pediatric CPR module includes diverse learning opportunities, including a videotape, skills demonstrations and instructor-led practice scenarios. A course card documenting completion of the course will be issued.

There is a fee for the class, with discounts for hospital staff and auxiliary members.
