Scott Co. Historical Society seeks Women’s March stories The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) is interested in gathering stories from local people who took part in the Women’s March, whether they attended the march in Washington D.C. or the one in St. Paul. To that end, there will be an informal gathering hosted by the SCHS, from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at its Shakopee location. This event is free and open to the public and will allow Women’s March participants to share their experiences. The SCHS is also interested in the donation of related signage for its collection. Visit them online at www.scottcountyhistory.org. On Saturday, January 21, 2017, an estimated 3-4 million people took part in what is likely the largest protest in U.S. history, the Women’s March. While the primary march took place in Washington D.C., with more than 500,000 in attendance at that location, there were “sister marches” around the globe, spanning all seven continents. It is estimated that 90,000-100,000 attended the Women’s March in St. Paul. The stated intent of marchers was to promote civil rights, gender equality, diversity and inclusion.

Suicide Grief Support Group to meet Feb. 28 Family, friends and anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide are welcome to attend the February meeting of the Suicide Grief Support Group. The meeting will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, 301 Second St, NE in New Prague. Please enter through the Emergency Room doors (southwest entrance) and take the southeast elevator (#2) to the lower level and follow the signs to the Jameen Mape Conference Room. VFW Post 5145 to hold March 2 meeting New Prague VFW Post 5145 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, at the Park Ballroom club room, 300 Lexington Ave. S. Lunch will be served at 7 p.m., all veterans are welcome to the meeting. At the last meeting, the Post voted on sponsoring a New Prague Safety and Gun Training program and donating $194.12. Jim Golgart, Le Sueur County Service Officer, was at the meeting. At the March 2 meeting there will be talk about Veteran’s Day on The Hill at the State Capital Rotunda in St. Paul on March 20. There will also be talk about the Golf Classic at Montgomery on July 17.

Scott SWCD to host free Plant Native Prairie Workshop The Scott Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a free native prairie workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, at Prior Lake City Hall, 4646 Dakota St. SE, Prior Lake. At the workshop people will learn about site preparation, how to get their planting started, receive maintenance tips and find out more about possible funding. This free workshop is open to all Scott County residents. Visit scottswcd.org or call the Scott SWCD at 952-492-5425 to register. People do not need to live on a large property to create natural areas, help pollinators and enhance wildlife habitat. Something as small as a half-acre of lawn or as large as a 10 acre or more crop field can be converted to beautiful and environmentally beneficial native grasses and flowers.

Separated & Divorce Support Group meeting March 7 and 21 Area Separated & Divorce Support Group "Healing Broken Relationships" meets from 7-8:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month at St. Wenceslaus Church, lower level, 215 Main St. E in New Prague. Historical Society looking for MCCL stories The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) is interested in gathering stories from local people who took part in the annual Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) rally. To that end, there will be an informal gathering hosted by the society at its location in Shakopee from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 11. This event is free and open to the public and will allow rally participants to share their experiences. The SCHS is also interested in the donation of related signage for its collection. Visit the SCHS online at www.scottcountyhistory.org. This year’s MCCL rally was held on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the State Capitol in St. Paul and was attended by an estimated 5,000 people. The stated intent of the rally was to promote the right to life and protest the 44th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.
