May Day Kids Kraft to be held April 29 Happy spring! The Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) is celebrating May Day with May Day Kids Kraft from 10:30-11:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 29. There will be stories and a special May Day basket craft. This event is free, but registration is required for supplies. It is for ages 2-8. Area families can register at the SCHS website under Kids Kraft. The Kids Kraft program introduces children to museums, supports literacy, and provides an opportunity for great family fun. Free movie open to public on April 30 Our Czech Heritage Club and New Prague Area Community Education cordially welcomes the public to a free showing of the Czech movie, “All My Loved Ones,” at the New Prague Middle School, 721 Central Ave. N, from 1:30-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30. The movie is in Czech with English subtitles. All are welcome.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon to meet May 2 Beyond the Yellow Ribbon South of the River (BTYR) will be meeting from 7-8:15 p.m. on Tuesday May 2, in the lower level of the Prior Lake VFW Club. All meetings are open to the public and the group welcomes people’s participation as well as their ability to volunteer. New Prague VFW Post 5145 meets May 4 New Prague VFW Post 5145 will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 4, at the Park Ballroom clubroom, 300 Lexington Ave. S, at 7:30 p.m. Lunch will be served at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome. The Post would like to thank everybody who bought a community service fundraiser ticket.

Historical Society to feature race car driver on May 18 Race car driver and Elko Speedway Hall of Famer John Boegeman will share stories of his time as a race car driver at Elko Speedway and Raceway Park at the Scott County Historical Society (SCHS) in Shakopee. The Scott County Historical Society’s annual meeting, Thursday, May 18, begins with an open house at 6 p.m., followed by a brief business meeting at 6:30 p.m. and Boegeman’s talk begins at 7 p.m. There is a small general admission for adults and students and free for SCHS members. NAMI MN to hold class in Chaska May 18 Join NAMI Minnesota (National Alliance on Mental Illness) for a free class in Chaska on Thursday, May 18, to talk about risk factors, warning signs, stigma, treatment, recovery and resources for depression in older adults. The class will be held from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Government Center, 600 East Fourth St., in Township Hall. A light snack will be provided. NAMI Minnesota is a non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of children and adults with mental illnesses and their families through its programs of education, support and advocacy.
