Car seat safety checkup is Aug. 17 Parents from Scott and Le Sueur counties are welcome to have their car seats checked for correct installation and recalls at a free monthly checkup event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17, at the New Prague Chevrolet dealership on Highway 19 east of New Prague. It takes roughly 20 minutes to check each car seat; no appointments are necessary, and walk-ins are always welcome. Grandparents, expectant parents and others who transport children on a regular basis are welcome to attend. New Prague Auto Group and the New Prague Area EMS Association are sponsors of this event each month. Trained Child Passenger Safety Technician volunteers will check for car seat manufacturer recalls, provide educational handouts, answer questions and offer tips to drivers to ensure correct installation of all child passenger safety restraints. Peace Center offering backpacks Aug. 17 Peace Center Food Shelf in New Prague is once again offering backpacks and school supplies for Peace Center clients and others in the community who are experiencing financial difficulties. The event will take place from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, in the Queen's Court driveway, right next to Peace Center. The program is for children K - 5. Backpacks will be limited to the first 75 children attending. Children must be accompanied by a parent.

Golden Agers to meet Aug. 20 The Lonsdale Golden Agers meeting is 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the Lonsdale Civic Center. Cards will be played and chicken will be served. New members, those 55 and older, are welcome. Lunch Committee is Harriet Budin, Lillian Uhlir and Dorothy Krocak. For more information call Mary at 507-744-2608.

Bereavement Support Group meets Aug. 20 A Grief Support Group meets the third Tuesday of each month in the parish office building of St. Wenceslaus Church, 215 Main St. E, in New Prague. The next meeting is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20. This group is open to all who are grieving the loss of someone significant in their lives. All are welcome to get the support that is needed at this time in their lives. For more information call Deacon Bob Wagner at 952-758-2716.

Alzheimer’s support group meet Aug. 20 The Lutheran Home: Belle Plaine and its Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association provide resources and a support group for community members whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory loss disorders. The monthly support group is free and open to the public. The next meeting is from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Kingsway Retirement Living in the Ratzkeller. "Caring and Sharing" will be the topic. Questions call Sarah Beckius, at 952-873- 2161. Therapeutic Respite Care is available for loved ones with Alzheimer’s/dementia for the hour, while people attend the support group meeting. Meetings & Events
