Ney Nature Center offers snowshoe lacing class Here is a chance to lace a pair of Ojibwa style snowshoes from a kit with guidance from an experienced instructor, Earl Gransee from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26. The kit includes a frame, lacings and a choice of bindings. Varnish is not included. An additional fee will be applied for anyone who wants to use the Ney Nature Center’s varnishing supplies. Additional classes will be held on October 3 and October 10. A fourth class may be added if there is enough interest. This program is designed for those in high school and older. Community HU Song at New Prague Library on Sept. 14 The public is welcome to attend a Community HU Song, from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 14, at the New Prague Library, in the small community room, 400 Main St. E. HU is a sacred and ancient name for God, sung as a love song to God and non-directed prayer. This gathering is presented by the Minnesota Satsang Society, Inc., a chartered affiliate of Eckankar. Canoe under a full moon on Sept. 16 at Cedar Lake Discover the beauty and splendor of Three Rivers Park District at night. Canoe under the full moon from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park, north of New Prague. Listen for wildlife while enjoying the night sky. Equipment is provided, but there is a cost and reservations are required two days prior to the event. Call 763- 559-6700 to make a reservation and reference activity number #447751-00. There is a 20 percent discount for groups of four or more. This program is for ages 5 and older and children 17 years and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Scott Co. HHW facility closed for construction The Scott County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility closed on Friday, Sept. 2, to undergo an expansion project this fall and winter. The facility is tentatively scheduled to re-open in late January, 2017. Stand-up Paddleboard at night on Sept. 17 Take out a stand up paddleboard to paddle under the full moon from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park, north of New Prague. Previous stand-up paddleboard experience recommended and equipment is provided. Please note: The stand-up paddleboards available in Three Rivers Park District have a manufacturer's recommended weight limit of 210-250 pounds. Beginner participants at or above the manufacturer's recommended weight limit may experience difficulty standing or balancing while on the SUP boards. St. Nicholas Youth group meets Sept. 11 A church youth group gathering combines a nice blend of social and spiritual time, which includes games, a meal, teaching on a saint, and time for prayer. St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Elko New Market will host a youth group from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the old St. Nicholas School building. St. Nicholas youth look forward to every meeting. Come and see why so many teens enjoy gathering for a night out at church.

Our Czech Heritage Club won’t meet in September The "Our Czech Heritage Club" will not be holding a meeting in September, as planning for the Czech Village has been completed. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the New Prague Memorial Library. See you on September 17 at the Czech Village located at the New Prague KC Hall.
