Melvin Stocker, 81

Melvin E. Stocker, 81, of New Prague, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

Melvin was born September 28, 1926, in Jordan, a son of Philip and Margaret (Zaun) Stocker. Born and raised at Jordan, he attended St. John's Catholic School. He married Adeline A. Kohout on August 28, 1945, in New Prague. Melvin worked for the City of New Prague and was street commissioner for 46 years, retiring on July 1, 1992.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Judith A. (Willard) Olson, Fall Creek, WI; daughter-in-law, Carol Stocker, Prior Lake; brother-in-law, Ray Johnson, St. Louis, MO; siblings, Rosalia (Emmanual) Kes, Chaska, Sister Josephine Stocker, OSF, St. Paul, Ralph (Florence) Stocker, Jordan, Wilfred (Ruth) Stocker, Jordan, and Irene (Bernard) Schambaur, Cologne; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Robert Stocker; his parents; a brother, Elmer Stocker; and two sisters, Theresa Huckenpaehler and Marcella Johnson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan. Pallbearers were Cody Kueker, Jeff Stocker, John Stocker, George Kohout, Ken Olson and Mike Olson.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
