Met Council dignitaries tour ENM

City and business leaders of Elko New Market met with representatives of the Metropolitan Council, including Chair Adam Duininck, on Tuesday, June 28. About a dozen people were involved in the tour of the city and conversations about a number of projects for the city and how the Metropolitan Council could help or partner with Elko New Market.

"It went extremely well," said Mayor Bob Crawford about the tour and discussions. "Things went so well they stayed an hour longer than they had planned. They enjoyed themselves."

The tour included one of two new fire trucks at the Elko New Market Fire Department. The new water truck arrived in June and was part of the Community Parade at Elko New Market’s recent Fire Rescue Days celebration. The second truck is expected to arrive later this year.

A bus, provided by Schmitty & Sons, took the group to sites for a future housing development, convenience store and warehouse district that are expected to be built in Elko New Market. The tour also included the new pavilion at Wagner Park, the city’s new and old public works buildings, to illustrate how the city haas grown, and its new water plant for treating water that goes to homes and businesses in the community.

The tour ended at the Firehouse Grille with a meeting and lunch with representatives of the Elko New Market Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority.
