Purple ribbon winners will advance to the regional science fair March 5 in Mankato.

A wide variety of topics and scientific questions were posed in the 17 projects that were displayed. It was evident from the quality of the projects that much time and effort was put forth by the 23 young scientists who participated. The volunteer judges—middle school staff members and New Prague High School students—who judged the projects clearly found a lot of passion evident through their interviews with the participants and in the quality of the scientific investigations.

Every participant received a Science Fair tee-shirt and most took advantage of the spaghetti dinner provided for participants and their families. Jodi Prchal and Dori Vikla, coordinators for this annual event and competition, are excited for those students who took part and are looking forward to the Mankato event. If any of middle school students earn purple ribbons at Mankato they will advance to the State Science Fair in the spring.
