The Minnesota Twins urge students to 'Step up to the plate'

Despite inclement weather and a late school start, the Minnesota Twins Caravan stopped at New Prague Middle School for an assembly on Monday, Jan. 25. The 840 students were sent to the gym when they arrived at school at 9:30 a.m. and waited for the caravan, which because of the weather didn't arrive until 10 a.m. Once they arrived, Twins mascot T.C. Bear entertained the students by leading cheers and helping to direct the school's jazz band as it played Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Twins' broadcasters Bert Blyleven and John Gordon shared a laugh during the assembly. Also part of the caravan were pitcher Jeff Manship and outfielder Denard Span. The students received Twins schedules and autographed photos, and two signed baseballs were awarded in a drawing after the event.
