MnDOT, State Patrol urge motorists to slow down
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol advise drivers to slow down while driving in southern Minnesota, especially along the Interstate 35 corridor in Freeborn, Steele and Rice counties, due to scattered icy spots.
The State Patrol has received several reports of vehicles in the ditch along I-35.
MnDOT snow plow operators are doing their part to make highways safe. Crews anticipate conditions will improve during the day. Motorists should remember to:
• Drive slowly on bridges, overpasses and tunnels.
• Use a safe speed for winter driving conditions, regardless of the posted speed limit.
• Keep a safe stopping distance from the vehicle in front of you.
• Keep both hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road and attention on your driving.
