Monty Bar now offers electronic pull tabs

Fire department pull tabs at the KR Monty Bar & Hotel have recently gone high-tech. Kim Reak, owner, installed an e-tab device on Monday, Feb. 25, allowing patrons to purchase and play pull tabs electronically. Above, Eileen Segna tries her luck with the new tablet. In the background are the paper pull tabs that are also still available at the bar.

Pull tabs that help support the Montgomery Fire Department recently joined the electronic age at one local bar. On Monday, Feb. 25, the KR Monty Bar & Hotel installed an e-tab device allowing patrons to purchase and play the fire department pull tabs electronically. And the process is simple, as Owner Kim Reak explained:

"You simply give your driver's license and the amount you'd like to play to a bartender, who will activate the tablet for you. Then you can choose to play games costing anywhere from 25 cents to $2 apiece," she said. "You can play as much as you want and cash out at any time. You can even switch games whenever you want. It keeps track for you."

The device works in much the same way as any other touch screen tablet, something most users have come to recognize and love.

"It was fun and it lasted a lot longer than I thought," commented Eileen Segna, one of the first to use the new e-tab device. "It was relaxing."

Reak is the first in the area to offer the electronic convenience to her customers, but will still offer the paper pull tabs as well. However, she said she is hoping the new e-tab will become a hit by attracting more people to purchase pull tabs.

"I hope it catches on," she said. "It would be nice for the firefighters to get a new fire hall."
