Mudcats hand Muskies first league loss

The New Market Muskies fell from the ranks of the unbeaten last week, and they did so with a thud, losing 10-1 to Prior Lake in a Dakota- Rice-Scott League game Wednesday, June 22. The Muskies recovered, though, and defeated two opponents over the weekend by a combined score of 30-5 to maintain a threegame lead in the league standings. St. Patrick, despite a loss to St. Benedict, remains in second place, while Faribault and Prior Lake are tied for third.
Last week’s results: Tuesday, June 21 Lakers 2, Sox 0 Faribault scored single runs in the third and seventh innings in a 2-0 win over Webster Tuesday, June 21. Jeremy Wieland pitched eight innings and struck out six while allowing seven hits in taking the loss. He also had a double, as did teammate Nate Nielsen. Tyler Francis registered the win for Faribault.
Wednesday, June 22 Mudcats 10, Muskies 1 Prior Lake handed New Market its first league loss of the season with a 10-1 win at Prior Lake. The Mudcats jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first and opened a big lead with a five-run third. Kyle Bergstrom drove in the Muskies’ only run in the seventh, scoring Andy Henkemeyer. Topher Rose pitched eight innings and allowed just four hits against the potent New Market lineup, with Justin Hackett pitching the final inning in relief. Cole Bjorge had three hits and two RBIs, while Austin Schultz had a home run and three RBIs. Kyle Schmidt and Jake Lehrer both had two RBIs, with Schmidt and Jonathon Houston both getting two hits.
Thursday, July 23 Lakers 11, Aces 0 Jack Helgeson was the inning pitcher as Faribault defeated Lonsdale 11-0 in seven innings. Ryan Thompson had two hits for Lonsdale, and also took the loss on the mound. Coyotes 7, Mallards 4 Shakopee took the lead with a three-run fourth inning and held on for a 7-4 win over Montgomery Thursday, July 23. The Mallards took a 2-0 lead in the second when Trey Krautkramer drove in Trevor Smisek on a ground ball and Aaron Dwyer singled to score Tyler Bednar. The Coyotes tied it with two in the third, with Alex Johnson driving in a pair of runs. Four straight singles in the fourth helped put the Coyotes ahead, with Logan Graff’s single scoring two runs to give Shakopee a 5-2 lead. Shakopee added two more in the sixth. Eric Iverson’s two-run homer for Montgomery in the eighth ended the scoring. Alec Pauley had three hits, two stolen bases and scored three runs for Shakopee. Bednar went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run. Cody Pamperin pitched seven innings for the win, while Trevor Smisek took the loss.
Saturday, June 25 Muskies 18, Aces 5 A 10-run fifth inning highlighted New Market’s win over Lonsdale Saturday, June 25. Tyler Bergstrom had three hits and six RBIs, including a home run to lead the onslaught. Andy Henkemeyer and Kyle Henkemeyer each had four hits and Parker Holmstrom, Nick Rost and Brett Herber had three each. Herber pitched five innings for the win, with Nate Rost going two innings in relief. Lonsdale’s Ryan Thompson had a homer and three RBIs, while Matt Tschida had two hits. Joseph Sabal started and took the loss. Irish 11, Saints 6 No information available.
Sunday, June 26 Lakers 3, Mudcats 2 Faribault’s Matt Lane and Prior Lake’s Ben Morrison faced off in a pitcher’s duel that ended with Faribault registering a walkoff win. Joe Grote hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. Lane pitched nine innings and allowed eight hits and two runs, striking out five. Morrison pitched 8-2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out six. Grote and Lane had two hits each for the Lakers. Jonathon Houston and Austin Schultz each had two hits for the Mudcats.
Saints 7, Irish 5 St Benedict defeated St .Patrick 7- 5 at St. Benedict field Sunday. No further information is available.
Orioles 15, Mallards 0 New Prague scored early and often in a 15-0 win over Montgomery, getting runs in each of the first five innings. The Orioles were able to capitalize on a few Montgomery errors and also added 18 hits. New Prague scored two in the first inning when Austin Bachman doubled and drove in Justin Novak, followed by a double from James Fuerniss. The Orioles essentially put the game away in the second by scoring seven runs off of hits from Ted Nytes, Jake Klein, Bachman, Dust Steinhoff and Dan Novak, with walks and errors also mixed in. Both Klein and Steinhoff had three hits apiece and Dan Novak had two hits and four RBIs. Dusty Beckius picked up the win, throwing five shutout innings striking out four, and Matt Siegfried pitched the final two. Dalton Zeug, Tyler Bednar and Jaron Christenson all picked up hits for the Mallards, Christenson recorded the loss.
Muskies 12, Sox 0 Andy Henkemeyer allowed just two hits in seven innings as New Market defeated Webster 12-0. Derek Bergstrom pitched a perfect eighth inning for the winners. Brett Herber went 5-for-5 for New Market, with three doubles and four RBIs. Nick Rost had a homer and three RBIs. Jake McDonald and Marcus Pleiss had the only hits for Webster. Gage Bergman took the loss.
