Muskies, Lakers still unbeaten in DRS

New Market and Faribault remained unbeaten in Dakota- Rice-Scott League play. The Muskies sit atop the league standings with a 9-0 record, two games ahead of second place Faribault, at 5- 0.

There were several rainouts last week, but most games were played over the Memorial Day weekend. That gave teams a chance to get on track. New Prague won two games to gain some momentum, as several college players returned home for the summer, giving the team a lift.

Wednesday, May 25 Mallards 4, Aces 2 Jaron Christensen allowed two runs and struck out four in seven innings to get the win and Johnny Krocak pitched the final two innings for the save as Montgomery defeated Lonsdale 4-2. The Mallards’ Eric Iverson had two hits, including an RBI double. Lonsdale’s Jason Kirschman, Travis Scheffler and Cole Pint each had two hits.

Friday, May 27 Express 7, Coyotes 2 Elko defeated Shakopee 7- 2 Friday in Elko. No information was submitted on this game. Webster at Union Hill - ppd., rain

Sunday, May 29 Muskies 12, Saints 0 New Market pounded out 15 hits in defeating St. Benedict 12-0 Sunday at St. Benedict. Andy Henkemeyer had three hits, four RBIs, including a home run and a double. Kyle Bergstrom and Nick Rost both had two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs. Kyle Henkemeyer, David Stewart and Scott Lyden had two hits each. Brett Herber pitched seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven for the win. Wade Olsen had two hits for St. Benedict. Cole Minnick started and took the loss, with Andrew Huss and Paul Hentges pitching in relief.

Orioles 9, Aces 1 New Prague starter Dusty Beckius pitched five strong innings, striking out five in a 9-1 win over Lonsdale. Brok Schwartzkopf came in relief to throw the final four innings and pick up the save. New Prague came out swinging scoring in five of the first six innings. Zack Dubanoski led the charge by collecting four RBI including two on a home run to left centerfield. Austin Bachman scored twice and drove in a run on two hits including a double. Dust Steinhoff hit a double and a single that scored two runs. For the Aces Matt Tschida and Cole Pint both had two hits apiece. Phil Tisdel started for the Aces and took the loss. Lakers 8, Warriors 3 Faribault defeated Veseli 8-3 Sunday at Veseli. No information was submitted for this game. Monday, May 30 Muskies 15, Express 1 New Market defeated Elko 15-1 in a game that will not be part of the DRS standings. The Muskies led 7-1 before scoring eight runs in the sixth. Steve McGuiggan and Nate Rost had three hits each, with Rost and Brett Herber both hitting home runs. Harvey Martin started and went three innings, with Derek Bergstrom picking up the win in relief. Elko’s TJ Evanson had three hits, including a home run. Dalton Lehman took the loss for Elko.

New Prague 8 Veseli 0 Chase Buthe pitched five good innings for the Orioles to collect his first win of the season. Dust Steinhoff and Zack Sirek both pitched in relief to preserve the shutout. The Orioles scored four in the first including two off of a Dan Novak single. Novak and Eric Wagner both had multiple hits and Austin Bachman had a triple to help continue scoring in later innings. Matt Perkinson and Mike Bartusek would both hit doubles for the Warriors but would be left stranded. Perkinson started the game and took the loss. John Solheid pitched the final inning for the Warriors and struck out the side.

Mudcats 7, Coyotes 6 Prior Lake scored twice in the top of the ninth to defeat Shakopee 7-6 Monday. Kyle Schmidt and Jerad Lehrer both had two hits for Prior Lake and Austin Schultz homered as the Mudcats totaled nine hits. Ben Morrison pitched eight innings for the win, with Justin Hackett getting a save. For Shakopee, Logan Becker had three hits, including two doubles, and Jack Piche had two hits. Alex Johnson started and Alex Boys pitched 4-1/3 inning of relief, taking the loss.

Aces 8, Saints 3 Cole Pint had four RBIs, sparking the Lonsdale Aces to an 8-3 victory over St. Benedict Monday at St. Benedict. Pint doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the fourth and ninth. Ben Lazzari picked up the win for the Aces. He pitched nine innings and allowed three earned runs, six hits and two walks while striking out four. Mathias Duevel took the loss for the Saints. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out six, and allowed five runs. Lonsdale took the lead for good in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Travis Scheffler. They added four more in the fifth, with Pint hitting a tworun double. A three-run home run by Cullen Bahn was the only offensive highlight for the Saints.

Irish 11, Mallards 1 Zach Seurer notched his first career win, pitching five innings in an 11-1 win over Montgomery Monday. Seurer allowed just one run, a solo home run by Ryan Iverson in the fourth inning. The Irish offense sparked up in the bottom of the fourth when Seth Ambroz singled and stole second, and Derek Hahn walked. With one out, Jordan Goracke, Jack Friedges, and Ryan Friedges, each singled home a run to make the score 3-1. In the 6th, Ryan Friedges singled with two outs and scored one pitch later on a double by Augie Isaacson. The flood gates opened in the seventh inning after Matt Ambroz was hit by a pitch and Seth Ambroz hit a deep home run to left. St. Patrick would tack on three more runs after that, opening up the score to 9-1. To start the eighth inning, Derrick Isaacson walked and Derek Hahn ended the ball game via the 10-run rule with a line drive home run to right. Seth and Matt Ambroz each ended the ball game with 3 hits.
