Neighborhoods unite in celebrations Aug. 6

Whether under the name National Night Out or Night to Unite, area cities will celebrate on Tuesday, Aug. 6, the strengthening of neighborhoods and community partnerships against crime and drugs.

The evening of events allows people to get to know others in their neighborhoods, increase crime and drug prevention awareness, and strengthen neighborhood spirit and bring police and communities together.

In New Prague, Westgate Townhomes will observe National Night Out from 4 to 7 p.m. The parking and open lawn next to the office will be used for the various activities. There will be food, beverages, games and prizes for all ages. There will also be face and hand painting for the children and a cupcake walk.

Organizations that will be visiting Westgate Townhomes will be the Scott County Sheriff Department and its mounted patrol, the New Prague Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance Service.

Elko New Market will have Night to Unite and currently has eight neighborhoods registered for the evening. Any neighborhoods in that community that wish to register can find registration forms online at the city’s website www.ci.enm.mn.us. The deadline for registering is Friday, Aug. 2.

Organizers of neighborhood parties can request visits from the Elko New Market Police and Fire departments, local EMTs and representatives of the Elko New Market City Council and city staff.

Any other neighborhood events that are occurring on August 6 in the area, let the staff at The New Prague Times know about them.
