New law seems ‘very questionable’

There are times I wonder how it is our state legislators cannot approve legislation for something as important as infrastructure, but they can OK a bill concerning temporary dwellings. At least I’m not the only one, members of the New Prague Planning Commission had some raised eyebrows about it. Briefly, certain recreational vehicles can be allowed as temporary family dwellings. So, an RV can be parked in a driveway and a person’s grandparent can stay in it. More information is coming on the issue, but City Planning Director Ken Ondich was right when he said the law could be "very questionable."

Frankly, I find the idea to be half-baked. Perhaps it was a way to help families with medical bills, but would you really want to have an older family member staying in a camper? Of course, some could interpret a recreational vehicle as a fish house, especially considering the new types that are out there. There are still the ones that are very simple, but today some fish houses come with bunks, tables, stoves, small refrigerators, heating systems and bathrooms.

Like the rest of the commissioners I’ll have to wait for more information and hope there are a few more guidelines.

A Memorial Day story Two veterans marched up to the Pearly Gates and with salutes as crisp as their uniforms, they said to St. Peter, "Reporting for service, sir."

"Service?" said Peter. "Oh no, you’ve already done your service." "Whether you stormed the beaches at Normandy or felt the blast of heat in Iraq. You’ve done your service." "Whether you crawled through the trenches in World War I or marched through the mud in Vietnam. You’ve done your service." "Whether you shivered during a cold winter in the hills of Korea or the mountains of Afghanistan. You’ve done your service." "Whether you helped rebuild Europe in peace time or aided a family after a hurricane or flood, stateside. You’ve done your service." "Whether you treated wounds at the front lines or helped aid troubled minds at the rear. You’ve done your service." "Whether you spent more time in the air or on the seas than you did on land. You’ve done your service." "Whether you were there as a comrade slipped away or you played ‘Taps’ at a fellow veterans’ burial. You’ve done your service." "Thank you my dear children for your service, your country and your fellows greatly appreciate it, but now you may have time to rest."

— For my uncles and anyone else who had family who served.
