New Market, Lonsdale council seats up for election

The cities of New Market and Lonsdale have city council elections on the ballot for November 8, and the filing period for those elections got underway Tuesday, Aug. 30. Filings can be made at the respective city offices until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. Filing fee is $2.

New Market

There are three council seats and the mayoral seat on the ballot in New Market. The 2-year term of Mayor Jim Friedges, the 4-year terms of Tom Michaud and Curt Sticha and the 2-year term of Jason Ponsonby expire at the end of the year. Ponsonby was appointed to fill an unexpired term, and whoever wins this seat will serve the remaining two years of the 4-year term.

As of 3 p.m Tuesday, only one candidate had filed in New Market. That was Joe Crawford, who filed for a 4-year term on the city council.


The 2-year term of Mayor Tim Rud and the 4-year terms of council members Fritz Duban and Evelyn Duban expire at the end of the year.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, one candidate had filed for mayor and one candidate had filed for city council. The city clerk’s office was not releasing the names of the candidates on Tuesday. Mayor Rud said he had filed for reelection and that Carmen Stanley had filed for city council.
