New Prague’s Parade of Lights is Dec. 9

By Patrick Fisher

New Prague’s ninth annual Holiday Parade of Lights is one week away. This year's celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.

In what has become a tradition of the last few years the New Prague Girl Scouts will be singing Christmas carols before the parade begins. This year the Girl Scouts will be caroling in the pocket park on Main Street, between New Prague Pets and Tupy Insurance.

The Parade of Lights will start at Church Street, by St. Wenceslaus Church, and travel west on Main Street. There will be a variety of floats and vehicles decorated with Christmas lights and items representing the holiday. In the past, these floats have included everything from angels to snowmen.

After the parade people of all ages can stop by the New Prague Area Community Center for Skate with Santa and open skating until 8:30 p.m. Youth through 12th grade are encouraged to bring unopened jars of jams, jellies, canned fruit or peanut butter, or new gloves, hats or mittens of any size to Skate with Santa. Youngsters will also have the opportunity to skate with members of the New Prague/Montgomery-Lonsdale boys varsity hockey team.

Food items will be donated to the Peace Center in New Prague and the names of those donating will be entered for prize drawings.

In the past, businesses, organizations, individuals and representatives of area communities have been involved in the Parade of Lights. Many of those that take part in the New Prague parade will also be involved in Montgomery’s Torchlight Parade, held tonight (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m.
