New Prague 12U team headed to Cooperstown

The New Prague Baseball Association 12U team is headed to Cooperstown, NY, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, to play in a tournament August 6-12, at Cooperstown Dreams Park.
Brad Schmitz is one of the coaches of the team. He said the New Prague Baseball Association was contacted this spring to see if they were interested in participating. The team was selected during tryouts and held several fundraisers to help pay for the costs of the tournament.
New Prague will play six games in three days, starting Sunday morning, against teams from Florida, Massachusetts, California, Virginia, New York and Nevada in pool play. After pool play, a single elimination tournament will be held to determine a champion.
"We’re going there to enjoy the experience," said Schmitz. "This will be a great time for the kids. We know some of these teams are all-star teams from larger communities, but we’re hoping to do well."
Schmitz said Burnsville was slotted for two teams in the tournament, but was only able to fill one team, and their association contacted New Prague to see if they wanted the spot in the tournament.
"This is the first time a New Prague team has been invited to the tournament," Schmitz said. "We are hoping to make this an annual thing for New Prague baseball.”
Besides Schmitz, the other coaches on the team are Rob Krostue and Mike Otteson.
