New Prague to celebrate 150th anniversary in 2006

Sesquicentennial, the term for 150 years.

It’s an important word for New Prague this year, as 2006 marks the city’s 150th anniversary. The coming year will feature a number of events celebrating this milestone in the city’s history.

A volunteer committee of residents will provide structure for the celebration. They are creating and implementing a plan that will honor the community’s past, celebrate its present and look toward the future. Co-chairs of the committee are Steve Bruchman and Jim Morris.

Bruchman said the committee started in 2005 with a number of people discussing different ways to mark the 150th anniversary of New Prague. Out of that came a brainstorming session by 14 people.
