Newspapers… The People's Product

By Chuck Kajer

This is National Newspaper Week. From October 3-9, newspapers across the country are celebrating one of this nation's finest traditions… Freedom of the Press.

The theme for this year's observance of National Newspaper Week is Newspapers… The People's Product.

Most every community has a newspaper to call their own, whether it be located right in town or in a nearby town. The New Prague Times serves not only New Prague, but New Market, Lonsdale, Webster, Veseli, St. Patrick, Union Hill, Elko, St. Benedict and Heidelberg.

The community newspaper truly is The People's Product. Readers are welcome to share the happenings of their lives, whether births, obituaries, wedding and engagement announcements or other events.

But a good newspaper is more than just a provider of scrapbook material. It is an information source for the community.

Look at this week's issue. There is information about upcoming elections, city council meetings, football games and tennis matches, school events, county government happenings and more.

Local newspapers also provide a medium for area businesses to advertise to their customers at an affordable rate.

Every week, this newspaper is read in nearly 4,500 homes and businesses who rely on The New Prague Times to let them know what is happening in the community. It is made possible by the combined efforts of reporters, editors, advertising sales people, office and production staff, delivery people and newspaper carriers. Together, our team does its best to put out a product that serves the entire community.

But each week, we remember, it's not really our product. It's made possible by the cooperation of our readers and advertisers. As the theme says, Newspapers are The People's Product. You are the reason we do this each week. So we ask you to join us in celebrating National Newspaper Week.
