Norbert Francis Patnode, age 78

Norbert Francis Patnode, age 78, of New Prague, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 in New Prague. Norbert was born on February 11, 1939 to Francis and Ann (Zahler) Patnode on his grandparent’s farm in Monticello, MN. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1957 and went on to serve in the US Army in Germany from 1957 to 1959.

Norbert was a dairy farmer for the majority of his life and a member of the National Farmer’s Organization (NFO). After moving to New Prague in 1976, he worked various jobs including MN Valley Breeder’s Association, Heat & Glo and Lonsdale Packaging. In the 1980’s, he started his own business called Patnode’s Family Health Products, which he ran for over 20 years. He spent the last 8 years working at Coborn’s in New Prague in the produce department, where he enjoyed greeting and helping customers.

Norbert was a very social person who enjoyed meeting new people and helping them with their healthcare needs. He formed many relationships in the New Prague area and surrounding communities and had a remarkable memory for names, dates and details. He was also a devout Christian and his faith was very important to him.

Norbert is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Charlotte Schalo; brother-inlaw, William Schalo; brother, Jerry Patnode and son, Eddy Patnode.

Norbert is survived by children: Joe (Lisa) Patnode of Belle Plaine, Mary Jo (Orlando) Havlicek of Eagan, Tim (Gabriella) Patnode of Georgia and Shelly (Dale) Draves of Burnsville; sister, Jan (Dale) Kottke of St. Michael; former spouse, Bonnie Patnode of Eagan; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in New Prague. Notice to follow. The family wouldlike to send a heartfelt thank you to Minnesota Hospice for their loving care of Norbert in his final days.
