NP shooter wins top honors

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League (MSHSCTL) state tournament was held June 11 and 12, with more than 500 athletes participating in the competition.

New Prague had 12 athletes representing New Prague High School. The team as a whole performed well, but there was one standout for New Prague. Zach Warweg, a junior, won the high gun in the male division and tied the 2010 High Overall Champion for the high overall title. They both broke 98 out of 100 targets during the normal competition. To break the tie there was a single miss elimination and Zach won after five shots. Zach earned a men's high gun trophy and a high overall trophy for the state competition. Zach was also recognized as the high gun for the South Conference.

Over this past spring the New Prague team shot at over 9000 targets and each week saw many of the athletes shoot personal best scores. Six of the New Prague athletes earned letters and all of the athletes made significant improvements over the season, said Paul Dietz, coach of the team.
