NPFD responds to eight calls

The New Prague Fire Department responded to eight calls since Thursday, May 25.

On Sunday, firefighters responded to a fire west of New Prague on property owned by the Department of Natural Resources. New Prague Fire Chief Jim Becker said the fire that burned a barn and garage were likely arson. The house that had been on the property had also been burned about a month ago, which was also likely an act of arson.

The department responded to a cut gas line on Thursday.

On Saturday, crews responded to a downed power line at Mahowald’s Auto & Sports, and were on site for nearly an hour until crews from Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative arrived to take care of the pole and the downed line. According to authorities, a Dodge truck hit the guideline, causing the pole to fall over. The driver was able to get out of the car without injury.

The New Prague Police Department and Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the call.

Also on Saturday the fire department responded to a transformer that blew and a minor brush fire that was quickly put out.

On Sunday, the department responded to a carbon monoxide call and a one-car rollover, but there were no one injuries. Crews also assisted the New Prague Ambulance Service with a cardiac arrest call.
