NPHS Homecoming queen shares her crown

When Maizie Deihl was crowned Homecoming Queen Friday morning, Sept. 23, at New Prague High School, she didn’t keep the crown very long.

During the crowning ceremony, she was standing next to fellow candidate Brookelyn Skluzacek, a learning disabled student. Seconds after the crowning, while all the other candidates were surrounding Maizie, she removed the crown and placed it on Brookelyn’s head.

For the rest of the day’s ceremonies - in the parade and during a halftime presentation, King Zach Hanson paraded with two queens, Maizie and Brookelyn.

"No one deserved that crown more than she did," Deihl said in a Facebook post. "She is the brightest being I know! Love that girl with all of my heart!"

Lisa Skluzacek, Brookelyn’s mother, told The Times "Our hearts are warmed with joy and love. To be part of the moment when Maizie was crowned Queen was awesome and to see the love in Brookelyn's eyes who immediately grabbed Maizie and gave her a huge congratulations hug was sweet.

"Maizie looked beautiful! Then to see Maizie immediately take the crown off and unexpectedly crown Brookelyn was a proud moment I will always cherish. We witnessed a true act of Love. Maizie is just an amazing young lady with a pure heart of gold. She is a wonderful roll model for both young and old."
