Orioles advance, Muskie rally falls short

James Fuerniss drove in Austin Bachman in the top of the first inning and that run proved to be the only one of the game as New Prague advanced to the final weekend of the State Class C Tournament Sunday, Aug. 27, in Norwood. Nathan Sprouls pitched eight innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 12. Trevor Smisek, draftee from Montgomery, pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save. Fuerniss had two of New Prague’s four hits, with Aaron Shetka and Taylor Lambrecht getting the others.

New Market trailed 5-0 going into the ninth inning and tried for a ninth-inning rally that fell short, as they lost 5-3 to Kimball, ending their season. New Market had just five hits, with Andy Henkemeyer getting a two-run home run in the ninth. Nick Rost drove in the other Muskie run, scoring his brother Nate. Nate Rost was the losing pitcher, allowing seven hits and five runs in eight innings while striking out eight.
