Orioles bow out in late show
The New Prague Orioles ended their season early Sunday morning, Sept. 1, losing 6-4 to Jordan in the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament in Delano.
The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m., but a thunderstorm caused a 2-1/2 hour rain delay. The game started at 10:15 p.m. Saturday and concluded about 12:45 p.m. Sunday.
The Orioles took a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning, but Jordan scored single runs in each of the final three innings to seal the win. Former Oriole Paul Buss helped eliminate his former teammates, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs for the Brewers. Justin Novak and Dan Shetka each had two hits for New Prague.
Jordan is scheduled to play Luverne at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Delano. One other area team is still alive in the tourney. Belle Plaine advanced with a 6-3 win over Avon and will play Howard Lake at 11 a.m. in Delano.
