Orioles move into 2nd in DRS

With a little more than a week left in the Dakota-Rice- Scott League baseball season, Faribault remains in first place, with New Prague having moved into second place. New Market and St. Patrick are in a virtual tie for third. Highlights from the past week include Lonsdale and Veseli splitting their annual Independence Day series, Union Hill getting a walk-off win over New Prague and Montgomery pulling off an impressive pair of wins by identical 12-1 scores.

Individual stars included Veseli’s Matt Perkinson allowing three hits and getting two of his own in a complete game win, Conrad Masberg getting four hits and the win on the mound for Union Hill in a win over New Prague and Johnny Krocak getting three hits while allowing just one for Montgomery in a win over Shakopee.

Last week’s results: Monday, July 3 Warriors 6, Aces 1 Matt Perkinson allowed just three hits and struck out eight as Veseli defeated Lonsdale 6-1 Monday. Perkinson also had two hits for the Warriors, with Corey Friedges also getting two. Mike Bartusek had a double and three RBIs. Phil Tisdel took the loss for Lonsdale. Tyler Milford drove in Isaac Pint on a single for the Aces’ only run.

Tuesday, July 4 Aces 8, Warriors 6 Lonsdale jumped to a 6-2 lead with five runs in the second inning and held on for an 8-6 win at Veseli. Ben Lazzari got the win on the mound. Justin Johnson had three hits, including a home run, and Cole Pint and Jack Skluzacek each had two hits. Matt Perkinson had three hits for Veseli, with Curt Brezina and Mike Barusek adding two each. Matt Stocker took the loss.

Wednesday, July 5 Bulldogs 11, Orioles 10 Union Hill scored in the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off win over New Prague. Dan Beckius hit a sacrifice fly to score Jesse Bastyr with the winning run. Conrad Masberg had four hits, Matt Beckius three and Danny Beckius, Eric Bisek, Bastyr and Derek Masberg had two each. Conrad Masberg was the winning pitcher. For New Prague, Aaron Kes had four hits, Zack Dubanoski three and James Fuerniss two. Fuerniss had a home run and Dubanoski had two dingers and six RBIs. Kes took the loss on the mound.

Mallards 12, Coyotes 1 The Mallards got another stellar pitching performance from Johnny Krocak as he went eight innings giving up one hit and one unearned run. The Mallards had the lead heading into the top of the ninth 4-1 when the Mallards were able to push across eight runs to sew up the win. Krocak had three hits for the Mallards including a double. Andy Lazzari hit an RBI single for the Coyotes.

Mudcats 16, Saints 6 Isaac Saad and Jake Schmidt combined to hold St. Benedict to five runs and six hits, as Schmidt got the win pitching for innings of relief for Prior Lake. St. Benedict’s Andrew Huss hit a three-run homer and Tanner Oakes had two hits. The Mudcats had three hits from Cole Bjore, including a double and triple, and Jonny Huston, Jake Lehrer, Topher Rose and Kyle Schmidt added two each.

Lakers 5, Muskies 4 Faribault scored a pair in the first inning and never trailed as they defeated New Market 5-4. Winning pitcher Matt Lane allowed seven hits and struck out 14 for the complete game win. Jack Helgeson was 3-for-3 for the Lakers. Nate Rost took the loss on the mound for the Muskies. Kyle Henkemeyer had a two-run double for New Market.

Sunday, July 9 Orioles 14, Sox 0 Nathan Sprouls, James Fuerniss and Chase Buthe combined to throw a seveninning shutout for New Prague. Fuerniss had a big day at the plate for the Orioles, collecting five hits, including a double, and driving in five runs. Will Forberg and Ben Buthe also had multiple hits and each added two RBIs. Justin Novak scored three runs and Eric Wagner scored twice on the day. Nate Nielsen and Gage Bergmann had hits for Webster. Sprouls was the winning pitcher and John Barten, who pitched six innings for Webster, recorded the loss.

Mallards 12, Warriors 1 The Mallards scored runs from the third to the seventh inning to give them the 12-1 victory in 7 innings. Jaron Christensen started for the Mallards and went five innings giving up one earned run. Ryan Iverson and Mike Flicek had two hits each for the Mallards including a double. Pat Lloyd had three hits for the Mallards. Tyler Busch had an RBI double for Veseli.

Irish 9, Muskies 3 Bill Dunker pitched six innings, allowing one run and six hits, to get the win as St. Patrick defeated New Market 9-3. Zach Seurer pitched three innings of relief. Matt Ambroz had three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs for the Irish, while Trevor Hentges added two hits and Kyle Sticha a home run. Brett Herber took the loss for the Muskies. Scott Lyden had three hits, including two doubles, and Harrison Ballantyne had two hits, including a double.

Saints 17, Mudcats 5 The St. Benedict Saints defeated the Prior Lake Mudcats 17-5 in eight innings in St. Benedict. The Saints scored six times in the bottom of the first inning, five times in the fifth, and five more runs in the eighth inning. Mitchell Martin had three hits, a homer, and six RBIs. Andrew Huss and Eric Steinhoff each had three hits and drove home three. Steinhoff also homered for St. Benedict. Jeremy Heitkamp returned from injury to throw 2-2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Jake Lehrer led Prior Lake with a home run, double, and two RBIs. Johnny Houston and BJ Benz also had two hits for the Mudcats.

Bulldogs 11, Lakers 4 Union Hill defeated Faribault 11-4 at the Hill. Hunter Piehl and Dave Anderson pitched for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs on nine hits, striking out eight and walking six. Eagan Bonde, Jack Helgeson and Blake Langerud pitched for the Lakers, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits. Striking out six and walking four. UH broke the game open with an eight-run seventh. Eric Bisek lifted two home runs, Conrad Masberg and Ted Nytes also had homers in the victory. Joe Grote hit one long ball for the Lakers. Masberg, Adam Giesen, Bryan Lindner and Bisek had multiple hit days for UH. Valentine and Langerud had multiple hits for the Lakers.

Coyotes 3, Aces 2 Chris Isensee pitched 8-2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out eight as Shakopee defeated Lonsdale 3-2. Jesse Nystrom came on to strike out the last batter and end the game. Andy Lazzari had two doubles and an RBI for Shakopee, with Logan Becker getting three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. Joseph Sabal took the loss for Lonsdale.
