To our newly elected officials
This week a number of newly-elected officials take office at the local, state and federal levels.
We take this opportunity to thank them in advance for their service. Whether we agree with their policies and viewpoints or not, we cannot deny the sacrifice many of these public servants are making.
At the county level, Scott County residents in New Prague have a new commissioner in Barb Weckman Brekke.
At the legislative level, District 20 residents are now represented by Rich Draheim in the Minnesota Senate.
And in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Jason Lewis took the oath of office this week.
Their jobs will require much time and effort. Their constituents will contact them regarding various issues they have with the different levels of government and expect them to solve it, or at least point them in the right direction. It will require them to listen to competing interests and contradictory viewpoints while trying to come to a decision.
To our new officials - and to those returning to office - We offer our best wishes for the coming terms.
And for former Commissioner Joe Wagner, former State Sen. Kevin Dahle and former U.S. Rep. John Kline, we thank you for all you’ve done on behalf of your constituents.
