Parade of Lights is December 8

In one week, New Prague will celebrate its 10th annual Holiday Parade of Lights on Thursday, Dec. 8. The traditional event celebrating the holiday season will start at 6:30 p.m.

Several New Prague area businesses and organizations are also taking part in Montgomery’s Torchlight Parade and fireworks, which will be held tonight (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m.

Roxy Krautkremer of the New Prague Chamber of Commerce said there is still space available for individuals, organizations, representatives of area communities and area businesses that want to participate in New Prague’s parade. The deadline to sign up for the event is Monday, Dec. 5. Anyone interested should contact the chamber about entering.

The Parade of Lights will begin at Church Street, by St. Wenceslaus Church, and travel west on Main Street. As in past years there will be a variety of vehicles and floats decorated with Christmas lights and holiday items, including angels, snowmen, elves and Santa.

After the parade, people of all ages can attend the annual Skate with Santa at the New Prague Area Community Center. The open skating event will last until 8:30 p.m.

Children and youth up to 12th grade are encouraged to bring food items or new mittens, gloves or hats of any size to the Skate with Santa event. These items will be donated to New Prague’s Peace Center and those donating can enter their names for prize drawings.

The chamber is organizing the parade, with Patty’s Place sponsoring the Parade of Lights and New Prague Ford-Mercury sponsoring the Skate with Santa.
