Pearl Daisy Erkel, 87

Pearl Daisy Erkel, 87, of Le Center, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, at the Minnesota Valley Health Care Center in Le Sueur.

Pearl was born in Sharon Township, Le Sueur County, on December 6, 1918 to William and Anna (Woehr) Dahn. She attended District School No. 19 at Dresselville. She was married to Ervin (Ole) A. Erkel by Rev. Mordof on June 2, 1935 at the Lutheran parsonage in Sumner, IA. He preceded her in death in 1995. She lived and farmed in rural Le Center and worked at a senior care home and at Traxler and Volkenant's Meat Markets. Pearl loved taking care of her grandchildren, as well as cooking and baking.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Reuben) Svoboda, Montgomery; son, Floyd (Ellen) Erkel, Le Center; grandchildren, Wayne Svoboda, New Prague, Kim (Tom) Higgenbotham, Eden Prairie and Ruth Hoefs, Le Center; one step-great-granddaughter, Ali Higgenbotham, Eden Prairie; and two sisters-in-law, Emily Erkel, Bend, OR and Blanche Erkel, Fort Pierce, FL.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; her parents; daughter, Lois Ann Erkel; brother, Ervin Dahn; and sister, Gladys Welckle.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center on Wednesday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. David Aaker officiating. Urn bearer was Pearl's grandson, Wayne Svoboda. Honorary urn bearers were her remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kim and Ali Higgenbotham and Ruth, Jena, and John T. Hoefs. Burial was held privately at Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center.

Visitation was held from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Le Center Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
