Pexa appointed to school board

By Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

The New Prague Area School Board officially accepted the resignation of board member Bob Reed at a special meeting Monday, Nov. 15, and appointed Tammy Pexa to fill the vacant position.

Reed announced his intention to resign last week in an email to board chair Jerry Walerius prior to the November 8 school board workshop, saying new work duties will require extensive travel.

After declaring the vacancy, board members held a brief discussion on how to fill the empty post. When Dan Carlson resigned from the board in July, the board accepted applications and interviewed six candidates, appointing Sherry Brooks. Board members agreed to use the same pool of candidates to fill the new opening and unanimously chose Pexa. Board chair Jerry Walerius confirmed in an email Tuesday that he had contacted Pexa and she would accept the appointment.

Pexa will take her seat at the board's November 22 meeting and will serve the remaining 13 months of Reed's term.

Pexa and her husband Jon live in rural New Prague. They have five children, one a New Prague High School graduate who is serving in the U.S. Army and four who are attending Falcon Ridge Elementary.
