Pexa headed to state

New Prague High School senior Jack Pexa finished second at the Section 2AAA boys golf meet Tuesday, June 4, to qualify for the state Class AAA meet Tuesday and Wednesday, June 11 and 12, at Bunker Hills at Coon Rapids.

Pexa will be making his second trip to the state meet. he qualified as a ninth-grader, but fell one stroke short the next year and two strokes short last year.

Pexa shot a 70-76—146, and finished six strokes behind medallist Matt Rachey of Waconia, who had a 69- 71—140.

Jake Witt was 12th overall for New Prague, carding a 75-78—153. Other Trojans were Austin Kottke (81- 74—155), James Brod (79- 83—162), Connor Amundsen (80-84—164) and Jakob Friedges (98-87—185).

“It was great to see Jack qualify after having just missed the past two years. He has been a big part of our program,” Coach Dan Puls said.

“I’m also proud of our team, qualifying for the second round. It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to do that,” Puls added.

The Trojans had a firstday score of 304 and were in third place, six shots out of the lead. they shot a 311 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 615. Eden Prairie won the championship with a 597, followed by Chanhassen (608), Lakeville South and Waconia (613) and New Prague was fifth at 615.
