Post 45 continues remarkable run

The New Prague American Legion Post 45 baseball team continues its remarkable run, upping their record to 8-0 with a pair of wins this week.

New Prague won both games on the road, topping Red Wing 5-1 and Lakeville South 6-3. New Prague was scheduled to host Red Wing Wednesday, July 26, and will host Farmington Monday, July 1.

Coach Rick Bell said things have really come together for the team, which is essentially the same team that won only one game during the high school season.

“We didn’t seem to get a lot of breaks during the high school season, and lost a lot of close games. It’s reversed itself this summer, and the boys are gaining confidence.”

Post 45 5, Red Wing 1 The pitching of Daniel Feneis led the New Prague Post 45 American Legion baseball team to a 5-1win over previously unbeaten Red Wing Monday, June 24, at Red Wing.

Feneis had nine strikeouts and allowed no earned runs and four hits while walking none.

Post 45 was led offensively by Auggie Isaacson, who went 3-for-4 from the plate.

New Prague scored once in the third on an RBI double by Isaacson. Danny Beckius scored on a passed ball in the fifth and Post 45 plated three runs in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead, with Isaacson, Beckius and Nathan Olson getting hits. Red Wing's only run was an unearned run in the seventh

Post 45 6, Lakeville South 3 Post 45 scored four runs in the first inning on their way to a 6-3 win over Lakeville South Tuesday, June 25.

Hentges had RBI singles in both the first and third innings. Cody Shimota also had two hits for Post 45.

Hunter Piehl got the win for Post 45, allowing three runs over 6-1/3 innings, while giving up five hits. Beckius got the save.
