Preserving a piece of family history
The Tuma family farm south of New Prague is seeing activity, especially around its barn, as crews will be working to preserve and restore the structure. The building will also be the site of a barn restoration workshop on Saturday, Oct. 15, sponsored by Friends of Minnesota Barns.
“I would hate to see the old girl fall down,” said Jeff Tuma about the barn, which has started to sink and one corner of the foundation was losing integrity. “We figure it was built around the turn of the century.”
The original owner of the property was Francis Tuma, who bought the property from the state in 1863. Jeff owns the homestead and is the sixth generation....
