Rainy weather delays highway opening

The Minnesota Department of Transportation's (MnDOT) reconstruction work on Highway 13/19 has been pushed back a few weeks due to the recent rains.

Susan Museus, construction project manager with MnDOT's District 7 Office out of Mankato, said crews from Chard Tiling & Excavating need two to three weeks of good weather to complete the project. The business informed her of the delay during a meeting on Friday, Oct. 5.

The opening of the highway, which includes New Prague's East Main Street, was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 12. At this time, it is anticipated the road will reopen to traffic in late October or early November.

The project has included work from Seventh Avenue SE to west of Alton Avenue. Reconstruction of the highway from Seventh Avenue SE to where it intersects with Scott County State Aid Highway 37 and 10th Avenue SE was completed first. The remaining work has been from the intersection to west of Alton Avenue.

Museus said the majority of the work remaining is the laying of concrete and bituminous material, grading, striping and placement of light poles. Also, some minor work has to be done.

For every day it rains
