Ray Chlan, 82

Ray F. Chlan, 82, of Montgomery, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.

He was born August 17, 1924, at Lonsdale, a son of Frank P. and Mary (Schoenbauer) Chlan. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Lonsdale and graduated from Lonsdale Public School. Ray married Harriet O. Shambour on October 1, 1946, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. He worked as a truck driver, hauling canned milk, freight and gravel. Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1962 and was financial secretary for the council since 1985. He liked to fix things, do yard work and spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; children, Lenny (Barb) Chlan, Montgomery, David (Debbie) Chlan, Clayton, WI, Linda (Jerry) Weltzin, Zumbro Falls and Michael (Traci) Chlan, Bogart, GA; a brother, Milton (Rose) Chlan, Montgomery; three sisters, Lillian Thomas, Lakeville, Delphine (Virgil) Odette, Farmington and Genny (Dick) Mesenbrink, Belle Plaine; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Rose Wohnoutka; and a brother-in-law, Bud Thomas.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, with Rev. Cory Rohlfing officiating. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Pallbearers were Mark, Isaac and Eric Chlan, Chad Weltzin, Josh Plower and Joel Fogarty.

Visitation was held Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
