Richard Hesse, 79

Richard Dick A. Hesse, 79, of Elko New Market, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at St. Gertrude's Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Shakopee.

Born on April 1, 1930, in Shakopee, he was a son of Peter and Anna (Derhaag) Hesse. Dick married Rita Odenthal on August 27, 1955, at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. For over 56 years he lived on and operated a farm in Elko. Dick was a deputy sheriff for Scott County for 17 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, and training dogs for hunting. He was also a hunting guide at the Minnesota Horse & Hunt Club, where he participated in trap and sporting clay clubs.

He is survived by children Patty (Jeremiah) Myer, Waseca, Tom (Wendy) Hesse, Elko New Market, Dan Hesse, Elko New Market and Diane Hesse, Jordan; grandchildren Rick Myer, Nick Myer, Jeff Myer, Rosie Chesley, Nathan Hesse, Ashley Hesse; great-grandchildren Asher Myer, Brewster Myer and Jillian Myer; sisters Maryann Deutsch, Shakopee and Joan Glisczinski, Belle Plaine.

He was preceded in death by his wife; great-granddaughter Cosette Myer; his parents; and brothers Edward Bud Hesse and Leo Hesse.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m., at St. Catherine's of Spring Lake Catholic Church, Prior Lake, with Rev. Orlando Tatel officiating.

Interment was at St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Prior Lake. Urnbearers were grandchildren Rick Myer, Nick Myer, Jeff Myer, Rosie Chesley, Nathan Hesse and Ashley Hesse.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home in Jordan, and also at the church one hour prior to services.
