Robert J. “Bob” Bednar, age 84

Robert J. “Bob” Bednar, age 84, of New Prague, died suddenly at his home on Monday, May 8, 2017. Bob was born on September 30, 1932, in New Prague to Emil F. and Ida B. (Kochlin) Bednar.

He grew up in New Prague, attending St. Wenceslaus School and graduating from New Prague High School with the class of 1950. He entered the US Air Force and served stateside during the Korean War. Bob married Delphine Parshall on July 9, 1955, in Clarkston, Michigan.

Bob was a man of many occupations, starting out in manufacturing for John Jasan, then in sales and delivery for Emerich Bakery in Minneapolis. Bob then worked for International Multifoods in New Prague and after Delphine’s death in 1986, he married Marilyn (Rehor) Sindelar on June 20, 1987 at St. Wenceslaus Church. Finally, many will remember his friendliness and great sense of humor working at the Do-It Center in New Prague.

Bob was a member and past Commander of the American Legion, a member of the New Prague Golf Club, and an usher at St. Wenceslaus Church. In addition to golf, he loved playing cards, especially Bridge and Sheepshead with his sons and grandsons and the Men’s Sheepshead Club to which he belonged.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sindelar of New Prague; children, Steven Bednar (& Susan Silverman) of Irvine, CA, Wayne (& Barbara) Bednar of Green Cove Springs, FL, Dean (& Deb) Bednar of Lino Lakes, Allen (& Jeanette) Bednar of Owatonna, Suzanne (& Ted) Novakowski of Palatine, IL, Cathy (& Ken) Chlan of New Market; Marilyn's children, Craig Sindelar (& Mary Ellen Weeman) of New Prague, Penny Proshek (& Joe Bianski) of New Prague; sister-in-law, Irene Bednar of New Prague; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; Marilyn's 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Delphine on March 29, 1986; parents; brother, Wallace Bednar.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Kevin Clinton officiating. Visitation took place on Monday from 4-7 PM and Tuesday morning from 7:30-10:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home. Burial occurred at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery where military honors were conducted.
