Robert Sirek, 84

Robert Albert Sirek, 84, of Northfield, died on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at United Hospital in St. Paul.

He was born on August 6, 1921, in Veseli, to John and Anna (Malecha) Sirek. Robert attended Willow Grove Country School. After his education, he farmed with his father.

Robert married Elsie Valek on June 12, 1944, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Hazelwood. They bought a farm near Webster. In 1953 Bob began working road construction along with his farming. In 1969 they sold the farm and moved into Webster. In 1975 they moved to Northfield and in 1977 Bob began working for the city of Northfield where he remained until retiring in 1996.

Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Workmen. He was a former member of the New Market/Elko-/Webster Lions Club. He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, bowling horseshoes and playing euchre.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; three children, Judy (Jim) Tuma, Jordan, Ron (Joan) Sirek, Northfield, Loran (Roswitha Ganser) Sirek, Cannon Falls; 13 grandchildren, Diane (Mike) LaRoche, Lynda (Keith) Hartman, Daniel and Monica Tuma, Robert (Mary Jo), Michelle, Nicholas (Becky) Sirek, Brian (Julie Wihlm) Meinke, Brenda (Darin) Driscoll, Mindy (Carlos) Renteria, Miranda, Justin and Sydney Sirek; 15 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Josh, Jeff, Hannah, Katie, Jacob, Hannah, Dylon, Morgan, Madison, Morgan, Angellina, Gisselle, Charlie and Nessiah; brother, Lawrence (Mary Jo) Sirek, New Prague; two sisters-in-law, Marion and Angie Sirek, both of Lonsdale; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gene; daughter, JoAnn Meinke; brothers, John and George; sisters, Lillian Simon and Elsie Simota.

Funeral services are to be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 20, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Rev. Dennis Dempsey will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Brian Meinke, Robert, Nicholas and Justin Sirek, Daniel Tuma and Edward Simon.

Interment will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery in Hazelwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to the funeral.
