Rodney Rud, 71
Rodney L. Rud, 71, of New Prague, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Rodney was born on March 10, 1940, in Northfield, a son of Louis and Marie ( J o h n s o n ) Rud. Born and raised in the Webster area, he attended grade school in Webster and high school in Northfield. He moved to New Prague in the 1960’s and owned and operated Rud Construction out of Webster. Rodney married Joyce Svobodny on February 20, 1960, at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. His great passion in life was baseball. He started out coaching Babe Ruth, then Town & Country and eventually the New Prague Orioles, the DRS team which he restarted in 1978 and went on to manage through 1991. Rodney was a member of the New Prague Eagles.
He is survived by his wife; children Tim (Debbie) Rud, Lonsdale, Terry (Mary Jo) Rud, Lonsdale, and Tom Rud, Eden Prairie; five grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; brother-inlaw Bob Clark, Marshfield, MO; and siblings Don (Marian) Rud, Bloomington, Lucy Hill, Faribault, Nordis (Don) Buethe, Burnett, TX, and Stanley (Wendy) Rud, Lakeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Doris Clark.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.
Interment is at the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers are Daniel Rud, Jennifer Hautman, Brian Rud, Matthew Rud, Stephanie Rud, Tiffany Hill, Travis Hill and Kevin “Henry” Kubes.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
Memorials are preferred to ALS.
