Roman Svoboda, 67

Roman Svoboda, age 67, of Monticello, MN, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
   He was born June 16, 1950, in New Prague, MN to Alvin and Julie Svoboda. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, New Prague High School, and U of M – Crookston where he received his Associate of Arts Degree in accounting. He married Evelyn Kohorst on May 18, 1974, and had two sons and a daughter.
   In September of 1976 they moved to Monticello, MN, where they raised their children. Family was very important. He spent much of his free time attending his children’s sports events - baseball, hockey, football, tennis, and swimming. Roman was an active member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church for over 40 years, where he was also very involved in the Knights of Columbus. He made a lifetime career as a salesman and loved helping people.
   In his free time, Roman enjoyed working with his hands on woodworking projects and restoring farm-related antiques. He loved to go to the MN State Fair each year to marvel at the historic tractors and relive the nostalgia of his youth growing up on a farm.
   He had four grandchildren – three boys and a girl, who were the joy of his life. Grandpa will now be watching over them from above. 
   Roman is survived by his wife, Evelyn, children Joshua (Victoria) Svoboda, Adam (Kelley) Svoboda, and Elizabeth (Israel) Velasco; grandchildren Logan and Revere Svoboda and Malakai and Azalia Velasco; brother, Norman (Ann) Svoboda. He was preceded in death by his parents Julie and Alvin.  
   Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30am on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 1001 East 7th Street in Monticello. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
