Roufs family attends World Vitiligo Day in Detroit

Alicia Roufs has been dealing with vitiligo since she was a child. Lately, she’s started to draw awareness to the condition where a person’s skin loses its pigment cells that can result in discolored patches over a person’s body. She joined with others recently during a conference in Detroit that fell during World Vitiligo Day on June 25.

“The conference was held June 23 though the 25,” said Roufs, who attended with her husband Dominic and their son Herbie. The family made the 11 hour trip to Detroit for the conference, which was hosted by different groups. One of the major ones was VStrong Vitiligo Support Group of Detroit. This was Roufs second conference as she attended the first national conference in 2016 in Washington D.C. It was at last year’s conference she was a speaker. The conferences not only draw attention to the condition, but also encourage more research and funding to study and treat it.
