Roy Lahnala, 72
Roy A. Lahnala, 72, of New Prague, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born July 17, 1936, in Leaf Lake Township, Ottertail County, a son of Charles and Ellen (Ojala) Lahnala. Born and raised at New York Mills, he attended Ottertail County District School and New York Mills High School. Roy married Jeanette Michel on August 31, 1968, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. He worked in building construction for Nieman Roofing and Kratochvil Construction and also worked at Minnesota Valley Engineering (MVE). He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965 with the rank of private (SP4). Roy was a member of the New Prague American Legion Post.
He is survived by two sisters June Gasper, Mesa, AZ and Gladys (Gerald) Behning, Duluth; five sisters-in-law Roselyn (Francis) Weiers, Union Hill, Mary Catherine Chromy, New Prague, Irene Michel, Bloomington, Viola Michel, Union Hill and Bernice Michel, Webster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on June 11, 2001; his parents; and three brothers-in-law Vincent Michel, Francis Michel and Arthur Chromy.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, at 12:30 p.m., at Prairie Cemetery in New York Mills, with Rev. Donald Salo of Apostolic Lutheran Church of New York Mills officiating.
Interment will be at Prairie Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
