Ruth Cervenka, 101
Ruth M. Cervenka, 101, of New Prague, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.
Ruth was born October 6, 1905, in Dalbo, Isanti County, a daughter of Emanuel and Helen (Baxter) Nelson. She lived at Dalbo, Mora, Princeton and Elk River. She attended Elk River High School and took training to become a registered nurse at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. On July 6, 1929, she married Dr. Charles F. Cervenka at St. Andrew's Parish in Elk River. Ruth worked as a registered nurse at the Community Hospital in New Prague.
She is survived by children, Mary (Richard) Zweber, New Prague, Dr. John (Paulette) Cervenka, New Prague, Douglas (Kathleen) Cervenka, Golden Valley and Catherine (Richard) Wornson, New Prague; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on October 6, 1992; a daughter, Susan Elizabeth Cervenka, at age nine, on February 4, 1945; a son, Dr. Charles K. Cervenka, age 26, on May 22, 1958; two grandsons, Timothy and David Cervenka; two brothers and a sister, Clair Nelson, Willard Nelson and Frances Nelson.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with Sister Ginny Heldorfer, pastoral minister of St. Wenceslaus Parish in New Prague, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were David and Michael Zweber, Doug Cervenka, John and Eric Wornson, Tom and Michael Cervenka.
Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
