Schedule to get tougher for Trojan boys

After a pair of impressive wins, the New Prague Trojan boys basketball team will see its schedule get tougher this week, as they face two of the Wright County Conference favorites.

The Trojans were scheduled to travel to Orono (No. 3, Class AAA) on Tuesday, Jan. 12, then will host Delano (No. 10, Class AAA) on Friday, Jan. 15. The Trojans will be on the road at Hutchinson Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Last week, New Prague easily dispatched Mound Westonka and Holy Family Catholic to up its record to 10-5 on the season.

Trojans 60, Whitehawks 20 New Prague Coach Bryce Tesdahl said his team was focused and played with energy from the opening tip in a 60- 20 win at Mound Westonka.

“Our starters set the tone and all of our players off the bench fed off the good start to keep it rolling,” he said.

“Our defensive intensity created easy baskets in transition and we made plays on the offensive end. All 16 players got the opportunity to play and Kyle Schoenbauer scored his first points of his career.”

Lucas Walford led the Trojans with 17 points, while Austin Greenwalt had 14 and Zach Hanson 11. Other Trojans scoring included Erik Bendzick (5), Jacob Milinkovich (4), Schoenbauer (3) and Jared Milinkovich, Tyler Lindell and Justin Gregor (2 each).
