Schoenbauer helps McDonald House

Mark Schoenbauer of Montgomery made an “impressive” donation recently as he presented more than 25 pounds of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis.

“Mark’s donation was impressive because he was an individual collector,” said Cara Luebke, Development Assistant of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest. “Most collectors/collections that raise 25 plus pounds of tabs are from a whole community, school, or organization.”

Schoenbauer made the donation on Monday, Sept. 19. Schoenbauer is a special needs adult who lives in a group home in Montgomery and works at Le Sueur County Developmental Services (LCDS) in Waterville.

“He’s been collecting the pop tabs a long time, about a year’s worth,” said Liz Connolly, who works at the group home and went with him to the Ronald McDonald House. She noted Schoenbauer had help from his family and his co-workers at LCDS. Connolly explained that Schoenbauer keeps the tabs in a little pocket pouch at work and when he gets home he puts the tabs on a counter and then puts them away. When he was finished collecting this time, he had 25 one-gallon bags. (There are approximately 1,286 pop tabs in one pound.)
