School Board is briefed on staffing needs
The New Prague Times New Prague High School will add one FTE teaching position to the World Language Department, school board members were told during a workshop meeting Monday, May 9.
Principal Lonnie Seifert said he had been looking at registration numbers and did some research on class sizes for world languages in other schools. Of the 36 districts he looked at, the lowest had an average of 21 students per section and the highest 30 per section in foreign language classes. As of right now, NPHS is looking at 32 students per section. Adding the FTE position will bring that down to about 28.
He said one Spanish teacher who was going to be part time next year will now be full time, and a part-time German instructor will be brought onto staff.
Seifert said he is continuing to monitor enrollment levels for other needs, and Superintendent Tim Dittberner noted that enrollment continues to grow at the high school.
