School board hands out awards, approves teachers’ contract

A teacher contract everyone is happy with is now in place at Tri-City United Schools. At the regular meeting of the school board on Monday, June 9, Superintendent Teri Preisler presented the agreement approved by the TCU Education Association, along with changes they worked on over the past several months. Health insurance was a deep and lengthy topic of discussion, she said, and now includes a $10,000 cap on single health coverage. Medical costs beyond that are to be split evenly between the district and the educator. Health insurance premiums will also be split evenly. Preisler said they will be forming an insurance committee to continue looking for ways to save and to make recommendations.

Other contract changes included performance pay being more evenly weighted with evaluations, the lane split for earned education credits being separate from earning a Master’s Degree, addition of grandparent bereavement leave, and a salary percentage increase up to 3.13.

“It’s important to negotiate in a fiscally responsible manner and have salaries that measure up to districts in the area,” Preisler told the board. “It was a cordial, respectful, long process both sides are happy with.”

The 2013-2015 teachers’ contract was unanimously approved by the board.
