School collects 2,000 food items

In one week's time, students at Raven Stream Elementary School in New Prague raised more than 2,000 food items for the Peace Center, New Prague's food shelf.

The Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27, event was part of a FoodShare Month, an annual campaign that raises funds and donations for food shelves across the state. The program at Raven Stream had a classroom challenge where the class in each grade that donated the most items received a pizza party. Winners were Beth Horning's kindergarten class, Wendy Fadden's first graders, Amanda Wetzell's second graders, Margaret Kartak's third graders, Amy Mach's fourth graders and Vonnie Ericson's fifth graders.
