Scott County board members take office

The Scott County Board of Commissioners took the oath of office prior to their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 8.

There were no new members, as all five incumbents were reelected in November, although each have slightly new district boundaries.

District 2 Commissioner Tom Wolf of Credit River Township was reelected chairman, and Joe Wagner was vice chair.

Also at the January 8 meeting, the board approved a two-year contract with corrections sergeants.

In one other matter, the board went into closed session to discuss an appeal by County Attorney Pat Ciliberto regarding his 2013 salary. The board had approved a 3 percent pay increase for all county elected officials. Ciliberto maintained that his pay should be at a level closer to his peers. He said he is paid about $8,000 less than county attorneys in comparable counties.

In 2011, Ciliberto and Sheriff Kevin Studnicka sued the county when the board tried to implement no pay increase. They were successful in getting small raises.
